These traits are inherent to every young adult battling cancer. Alli Shapiro, founder of Alli's journey embodied just that; courage and strength in her seven year fight with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, and heart as she lived with this disease using humour, humility and belief as her strongest weapons. Alli was determined to move from a cancer fighter to a cancer survivor.
Unfortunately, Alli lost her battle.
Alli's Journey will live on, so that young adults with cancer will have a charity to call "home".

This is so inspiring! Angela Zhang, a 17-year-old from California has just landed a $100,000 scholarship from the Siemens Competition in Math, Science & Technology. It was awarded to Angela for her research in utilizing nanotechnology to potentially eradicate cancer stem cells and leave healthy cells intact. Zhang logged almost 1000 hours in the lab designing a gold and iron oxide-based nanoparticle to target cancer stem cells.
One of the competition judges compared Zhang’s microscopic nanoparticle to a “Swiss Army knife of cancer treatment” that can seek out cancer cells and then destroy them.
Amazing work!

Young Adult Cancer Canada is inviting all young adults dealing with cancer in Canada* to join them in Ottawa from November 3-7, 2011 for the 5thAnnual Survivor Conference. You will spend four days building community, sharing experiences, and learning how to make the rest of our lives the best of our lives with others who truly “get it.” The weekend will feature professional speakers, workshops, small group discussions, and free time to connect on a personal level.
The Survivor Conference is also their annual reunion where past program alumni are encouraged to come back and reconnect with the friends they have made in the past while they’re making new friends.
The program is free for survivors and one supporter, all they ask is that you cover your travel to and from Ottawa. They will take care of the rest from your hotel room to your meals. They also have some travel assistance available and great fundraising ideas to help you cover some of the cost of travel.
Please visit their website (youngadultcancer.ca/survivor_conference) or contact karine@youngadultcancer.ca for more information and to apply!
