Ali Shapiro Every worthwhile journey takes courage strength and heart

These traits are inherent to every young adult battling cancer. Alli Shapiro, founder of Alli's journey embodied just that; courage and strength in her seven year fight with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, and heart as she lived with this disease using humour, humility and belief as her strongest weapons. Alli was determined to move from a cancer fighter to a cancer survivor.
Unfortunately, Alli lost her battle.

Alli's Journey will live on, so that young adults with cancer will have a charity to call "home".

Check out RETREAT YOURSELF from Young Adult Cancer Canada

Young Adult Cancer Canada (YACC) provides inspiration, information, and support to young adults dealing with cancer. They know that young adult survivors and supporters are facing huge challenges that are very specific to their age group; fertility, finances and independence are only a few of the issues. YACC provides a number of programs for young adult survivors and supporters, including an annual retreat to help survivors and supporters connect with others who truly understand what you are going through. Their retreats and conferences are all about community and coming together with a bunch of people who “get” what it’s all about to be a young adult cancer survivor.  The weekends are free to young adult cancer survivors (that have been diagnoses, and who are currently between 18 & 35 years old), as well as one supporter (a friend or partner - no parents).

Retreat Yourself

Cancer is different when you’re a young adult. In the first stage of adult life, dealing with cancer suddenly gives issues like fertility, friends and finances a whole new meaning. At the retreat, they bring together young adults from all over the country to connect, talk about the stuff that makes cancer tough and unique for young adults (in full & small group sessions) and to hear fellow survivor presentations. They also hang out, act stupid, compete for the Retreat Yourself Cup (V and/or B-ball) and generally have the time of their lives!

Retreat Yourself East will be taking place just outside Montreal, QC from July 23rd – 27th, 2009.

The weekend is free- They have travel assistance available if you need it.

To get your application form today go to their website http://www.youngadultcancer.ca/retreat_yourself/
